More spaces just opened up for Kentuckians to attend a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency hearing on proposed climate protection rules in Atlanta on July 29! This is an historic opportunity to demonstrate broad public support for actions to safeguard our health and climate. Please make plans to join us if you can.

Register now to let us know if you are interested in a seat on a bus July 28-29, including one overnight stay in Atlanta. We’ll follow-up with you to confirm the details.

Thanks to the Sierra Club, a bus will leave Louisville on July 28 and make stops in Lexington, Berea and London on the way to Atlanta, Georgia. Selected participants will spend Monday night in an Atlanta hotel and participate in a hearing on the EPA’s proposed Clean Power Rules. The bus will return to Kentucky late on July 29.

The EPA has just announced that all speaking slots have been filled for this public hearing. However, the Sierra Club is working to match people from Kentucky with speaking times that have already been claimed for June 29. It is likely, although not guaranteed, that you’ll get the opportunity to speak during the first day of this two-day public hearing. Even if that isn’t possible, you will have the opportunity to participate in a march and rally in Atlanta, in addition to attending the hearing itself.

For more information about the EPA’s proposed Clean Power Rule and its implications for Kentucky, please see this summary provided by KFTC. KFTC also will host a conference call for people who are making this trip to help you prepare your comments.

If you are unable to attend a hearing, there are many other ways you can make your voice heard in support of meaningful climate action.

§ Submit written comments to the EPA about the proposed rule. KFTC has posted background information, including suggested talking points and information about how to submit your comments.

§ Write a letter to the editor of local and statewide papers in Kentucky expressing support for EPA actions to safeguard our health and climate. A list of newspapers is here.

§ Look for other KFTC announcements about other upcoming opportunities to take action for our health and climate, including a trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby for clean water in early September and a major mobilization for climate action in New York City on September 21, 2014. If you have questions about those opportunities, feel free to contact Lisa Abbott at [email protected] or 859-756-4027 x 102.
