A pension is promise. Don’t cut it, fund it. | Kentuckians For The Commonwealth

A pension is promise. Don’t cut it, fund it.

Governor Bevin and the Kentucky legislature are planning to roll out changes to Kentucky’s public pension system this week that will hurt public workers, breaking the promise of a public pension and stripping our public servants of the benefits they have earned. Legislators have only paid the legally required payment into the pension fund for 7 out of the last 21 years all while giving out billions of tax breaks to millionaires and corporations. And now they’re blaming us state workers and trying to cut our benefits. This isn’t right!

We need you to raise your voice and stand with me and the rest of our public workers.

NOW: Contact Your Legislators and the Governor
All of Kentucky’s legislators will be having meetings tomorrow and we believe they will release some outline of their plan afterwards. Early reports suggest these changes are a blatant attack on public workers. Our legislators need to go into those meetings knowing that their constituents are watching and will not allow them to do this. In the next 24 hours, we need an outpouring of calls, tweets and emails to the governor and your legislators. Tell them:

“Don't gut the pensions of our state workers. Instead fund them as you are legally required to do. ....(insert personal concerns/personal story here).... Kentucky should be closing tax loopholes for corporations and millionaires, not stealing what public workers have earned and paid for. A pension is promise. Don’t cut it, fund it.

Please consider writing a Letter-to-the-Editor in your local paper or writing a post on your social media pages as well. We need everyone to hear about this.

THIS WEEK: Get Informed and Get Involved
The governor and legislature are going to try to push these illegal and immoral attacks on public workers during a special legislative session sometime between now and the beginning of December. Join our webinar on Thursday, October 12 at 7 p.m. EDT to learn about these attacks on our public workers, how did we get here, and where do we go from here. RSVP HERE. At the end of the webinar we will tell folks how they have take action in the coming weeks. In the meantime, learn more and sign the petition on our website.

The only way we’re going to stop these attacks on our public workers is if you get involved. We need you in this fight.
