Solar in Kentucky: opportunities to learn and lend support

Kentuckians want more and better energy options, and we are especially interested in seeing more locally and community owned solar projects. That was the overwhelming message KFTC heard when we asked more than 1,000 people across the state to share their vision for Kentucky's energy future.

This weekend, all Kentuckians are invited to take part in many exciting opportunities to learn about and support solar energy solutions. The 2016 Kentucky Solar Tour is organized by the Kentucky Solar Energy Society.

Five communities across Kentucky are hosting solar tours on Saturday, October 8: Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Kentucky. These free tours offer the chance to visit homes and businesses with installed solar energy systems and attend informative workshops and presentations. In some locations the tours are self-guided by car or bike. In other locations, participants will ride to tour locations on a free bus from the starting location.

This year, the schedule of events in Louisville and Lexington also includes a benefit concert on Saturday night to raise funds for solar panels on local Habitat for Humanity homes. For full details and tickets to these benefit shows, visit SolarKentucky.org.

The Louisville solar benefit concert takes place at the Haymarket Whiskey Bar.

The Lexington solar benefit show takes place at the Burl.
