Building a movement for Just Transition and climate action in Kentucky

KFTC is proud to launch a new, exciting leadership development opportunity through the Empower Kentucky Leadership NetworkApply now to be part of a diverse network of grassroots leaders who will inspire and support each other to propel a grassroots movement for  Just Transition, equity, affordable and clean energy, climate action, and a healthy democracy in Kentucky.

The core program (open to Empower Kentucky Leadership Network only)

  • Two weekends of training and relationship building
    • Fundamentals of Just Transition and Climate Justice (November 8-9-10, in Louisville or Bowling Green)
    • Core skills and strategies for organizing & movement building (most likely June 5-6-7)
  • Monthly video trainings (December, January, February, March, April, May), including sessions on communications and messaging; Kentucky’s energy landscape; centering racial, economic and gender justice; and more.
  • Setting and working towards individual goals
  • Periodic peer-support calls with a small group of network participants

 

Optional programs: (open to network participants and others)

  • Saturday training on How to Lead a Power House Workshop (Sept 2019)
  • Weekend training on running for office (December 2019)
  • Saturday field trips: Visits to communities across KY to learn about local Just Transition issues, organizing and solutions and participate in inspiring community and/or voter engagement strategies (October, December, March, April)
  • A big public event or convening in the summer of 2020, to be planned by interested Network participants.

The Empower Kentucky Leadership Network is for people who:

  • Share values of inclusion and racial, economic, and gender justice. 
  • Are committed to organizing, communicating, and building a powerful movement in Kentucky on an agenda that prioritizes Just Transition, equity, clean energy and climate.
  • Make a good faith commitment to participate fully in the core program.
  • Come from diverse gender, race, class, and age backgrounds; are from rural, urban and small town Kentucky; are KFTC members or serve in other organizations or public roles (including folks in public office or considering running); are people with a range of organizing experience and issue expertise – from deeply to newly involved.
 

To apply: Completed applications are due by September 22 at midnight. Applicants will be notified before October 1 if accepted or on a waiting list. Participation in Network trainings is free. KFTC will reimburse or cover most expenses, including mileage, lodging, food, and childcare. For the core program, we may also be able to provide a small stipend to help cover lost income for those who work weekend shifts. All participants are encouraged to help raise funds for KFTC through a crowd-funding site in the fall of 2019.
