Protect Kynect

kynect

“Governor Bevin said he wants to build something here that is a national model. We already have. It’s called kynect. Let’s keep it.”

-Dana Beasley Brown, KFTC Chair, at the 2016 We Are Kentuckians Rally

Kynect was built by Kentucky for Kentucky, and it works well, especially coupled with Kentucky’s expansion of Medicaid. Together, they’ve become, as Dana said, a national model. In just one year, more than 425,000 Kentuckians have gained access health care coverage, bringing Kentucky’s uninsured rate down from 20% to 7.5%.

The future of kynect and Medicaid expansion is unclear. But Rep. Darryl Owens has filed two bills that would protect kynect (HB 5) and Medicaid expansion (HB 6).

These bills are an important opportunity for Kentuckians and for the House to stand up for health care without barriers.

Background on Kynect

Kynect was built by Kentucky for Kentuckians, and it works well, especially coupled with Kentucky’s expansion of Medicaid. Together, they’ve become, as Dana said, a national model. In just one year, more than 425,000 Kentuckians have gained access health care coverage, bringing Kentucky’s uninsured rate down from 20% to 7.5%.

The future of kynect and Medicaid expansion is unclear. But Rep. Darryl Owens has filed two bills that would protect kynect (House Bill 5) and Medicaid expansion (House Bill 6). HB 5 would keep the current Kynect program in place while HB 6 would direct the state to take full advantage of Medicaid expansion opportunities.

These bills are an important opportunity for Kentuckians and for the House to stand up for health care without barriers.
