Support Health Care for All - Call today!

Kentuckians deserve affordable, quality health care. But Republican legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is about tax cuts for the wealthy – not health care. And to gain the support of the right-wing "Freedom Caucus," Congressional Republicans have made the bill even worse than before – rolling back protections for folks with pre-existing conditions, and rolling back protected coverage for essential services like hospital stays, mental health, and maternity care.

Their plan offers $600 billion in tax breaks for the wealthy, insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry – paid for by taking away people’s health care. It would leave 23 million people without coverage and dismantle Medicaid as we know it.

It’s important that you call now, and urge your friends to call as well. Senator McConnell is using a process that fast tracks health care repeal: no hearings, no opportunities for expert input or community input, and we (and most senators!) may not even see a draft of the bill until a day before they vote.

From what we hear, the Senate version of the health care repeal bill seems very similar to the damaging House bill that cuts coverage for 23 million people and guts Medicaid, with just a few tweaks around the edges. Our national allies say that the Senate bill is about 80% unchanged from the cruel House bill.

Suggested Message:The health care repeal bill that you’re fast tracking will mean less coverage and lost jobs here in Kentucky. It puts the interests of the insurance companies, pharmaceutical industry and the wealthy above the best interests of Kentuckians. Improve the Affordable Care Act, don’t gut it.”

Sen. Rand Paul:

D.C. number: 202-224-4343

Suggested Message: “We are concerned about the fast-tracking of the health care bill. Don’t let the Senate vote on a bill until we see the bill and its impacts.”
