KFTC at Worldfest in Louisville this weekend

Jefferson County KFTC Electoral Organizers and member volunteers had a great first day at Worldfest, an annual three-day event on the Belvedere celebrating Louisville’s international heritage. It started out a little slow with uncertain weather predictions, but throughout the day we had great conversations, registering voters and talking about issues. As newly minted U.S. citizens emerged from the naturalization ceremony, several stopped by the KFTC booth where we got them registered to vote and explained the process.

IMG_2028We also got a good deal of young people registered to vote for the first time, and talked with several people who are former felons and have served their time about our efforts to restore voting rights. All told, we registered more than 60 voters on our first day at Worldfest!

Saturday was another great day of conversations about voter empowerment, tax justice, and Applachian transition, with people from all over Kentucky, Indiana, and the world. We had to hunker down during a couple of downpours, but still registered 65 people to vote!  Sunday was a bit of a bust with sparse attendance and more rain. Only one voter registration by mid-afternoon, and a football game that tends to keep people at home convinced us to pack up early. But we met and engaged with a lot of good people, and registered more than 125 voters over the weekend. Not a bad start to election season in Louisville!
