Question 3:

What are your views on whether the court, as a whole, deals effectively with racial bias?  What could improve that?

I believe that the court system and all agencies involved in the justice system as a whole have begun to recognize not only explicit racial bias in the system but implicit as well. Unknowingly and unintentionally at times, our system has displayed racial bias from all levels. My personal adventure into researching this issue has brought to light that courts and law enforcement agencies have been taking steps to eliminate explicit racial bias in our system. However, implicit racial bias is far from being addressed or rectified. The implicit associations we have formed as a result of life experiences can be gradually unlearned through a variety of “de-biasing” techniques. I believe all levels of the justice system should incorporate such training and acknowledgment in their day to day operations.
