Louisville Loves Mountains Week


Jefferson County Chapter of KFTC hosts Louisville Loves Mountains Week to promote
I Love Mountains Day.  This series includes the following events:

 

"From Louisville to Appalachia: Celebrating Our Common Heritage"
NEW DATE: Monday, March 17, 7pm to 10pm
Hillbilly Tea, 120 S. 1st Street, Louisville
$5 suggested donation 

Come celebrate Kentucky's African American heritage in Appalachia. Kentucky writers, musicians, and Eastern Kentuckians will share their work and personal stories in celebration of the unique natural beauty, ecological importance, and cultural heritage of Kentucky's Appalachian Mountains and mountain communities. The evening lineup includes: musicians Randy Wilson, Sara Soltau, and Cynthia Fletcher; poets Amber Burns and Tarsha Semakula; speakers Cassia Herron and Matisa Wilbon; and long time KFTC and Eastern Kentucky Social Club members Benny Massey and Rutland Melton. Cash bar and food available for purchase. 


I Love Mountains Day Poster-Making Party

Four Sisters, 2246 Frankfort Ave, Louisville
Free

Come make your homemade I Love Mountains Day rally poster, mingle with fellow mountain lovers and enjoy delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Poster-making supplies, donated by Artist and Craftsman Supply, will be available but feel free to bring your own. This party is co-hosted by KFTC and Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light. Food available for purchase. 

 

 Premiere Film Screening of “Appalachia 2050” 

Friday, February 7, 7pm to 9pm
Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street, Louisville
$5 suggested donation

This new documentary film by Ralph Davis features interviews with Eastern Kentuckians affected by coal mining practices and examines the War on Poverty in Appalachia. Louisville author Sam Avery will facilitate a post-screening discussion featuring the filmmaker and several individuals interviewed for the film.
