Forty-eight hours of “Voter Madness” begins Thursday at noon and lasts through Saturday at noon at a variety of locations and events in the Lexington area.

The flurry of activities will raise awareness about the October 6 deadline for voters to register in order to vote in the November 4 general election.

Members of the Central Kentucky Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth will be registering voters for 48 consecutive hours beginning at the Lextran bus terminal, University of Kentucky, Transylvania University, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, and at a variety of events, restaurants, clubs and bars.

“I’m participating in voter madness because it’s the legacy of students to fight for everyone’s right to vote and the first step to fulfill that legacy is to make sure our peers and neighbors are registered to vote,” said Tyler Offerman, a KFTC campus voter empowerment organizer.

Every election year, KFTC, a nonpartisan, 33-year old grassroots social justice organization, registers thousands of voters. KFTC strives to create an authentic, participatory democracy by registering, educating and mobilizing voters to participate in elections – and make a space to talk about issues. KFTC specifically targets voters who are traditionally underrepresented, such as youth, people of color, women and low-income communities.
