Question 1:

Would you support the passage of an ordinance requiring that waste-to-energy facilitates be located a safe distance from homes, schools, and places of worship? Would you support the development of a waste-to-energy facility in your district? Please explain.

Any waste-to-energy facility should be located in a safe place.  The distance the waste has to travel to get to the facility is key – if it is too far, the energy return on energy invested is not sustainable.  We need to be reducing waste to landfill and producing renewable energy in ALL areas of town if we are going to be a competitive city.  Micro bio-digesters are a new technology that may end up replacing the need for giant facilities, except for those big industries like distilleries that have huge quantities of usable waste. In the future, micro may be something each house has, alongside its solar array and compost corner.

Yes, depending on the details of the type of development and if it was using waste created on site or trucked in.
