Annual Friend-Raiser held in Madison County

The Madison County Chapter held its annual Friend-Raiser this past weekend, drawing 75 guests to Berea’s picturesque and secluded HomeGrown Hideaways. Veteran members and prospective members alike were treated to an evening of fun and food, along with some friendly competition in the form of a silent auction.

During a potluck which included food prepared by local members and catered by Back Porch Smokehouse, veteran Madison County members Steve Wilkins and Carey Henson spoke to the group. Steve Wilkins spoke about the importance of growing KFTC’s numbers so it would be increasingly difficult to ignore in Frankfort, while Carey Henson spoke about KFTC’s impact on her personal life. “KFTC has become my extended family,” said Henson, emphasizing the importance of community and friendship to KFTC’s work. Kate Grigg also spoke about the connection between KFTC and her work with Bereans For Fairness in pushing for a local fairness ordinance.

For the rest of the evening, Carla Gover and Danny Hess took the stage, performing folk songs and ballads, accompanied by a banjo-and-guitar cover of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” As they played the sun down, the attendees made their last bids in the silent auction, the winners walking away with items as diverse as a rain collection barrel, handmade baskets and fruits grown at Homegrown Hideaways. By the end of the evening, the Madison County chapter had raised over $2,000 from contributions made by guests and funds raised from the auction.
